What is RCIC (rite of Christian initiation for children)?
This form of the rite of Christian initiation is the process for children who have attained
the age of reason (age 7) and for those older than 7 years of age who are baptized but
have not yet received their First Holy Communion.
Those seeking Christian initiation do so either at the direction of their parents or
guardians or, with parental permissions, on their own initiative.
What does the process involve?
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Children is a process which asks for a sincere and fervent commitment from both the parents and the child (ren) involved. In addition to attendance at Sunday Mass, the child(ren) along with at least one parent will attend sacramental preparation classes.
Classes will be held twice a month October-May on Sundays following the 11:00am Mass at St. Joseph’s.
When will children receive the sacraments?
The children who have completed the classes and show a desire for the sacraments will receive the sacraments at a special ceremony on Pentecost Sunday. (50 days after Easter)
